Prologue

It is the christening of the newborn princess, Aurora, and the six good fairies and many other guests have been invited. Upon her the invited fairies bestow magical gifts, blessing her with virtue, and flower children present small rose trees. All of a sudden, the palace grows dark and the evil fairy, Carabosse, arrives with thunder and lightning. Catalabutte, the King's secretary, is shocked to realize she has been forgotten. In revenge for being left off the invitation list, Carabosse casts a curse over Princess Aurora, declaring that the Princess will prick her finger on a spindle and die on her sixteenth birthday. While all are terrified, the Lilac Fairy promises the King and Queen that she will protect Princess Aurora. Indeed, Princess Aurora grows under the protection of the good fairies. Meanwhile, Carabosse continues watching her, waiting for the day when the curse will become a reality.

ACT I. The Birthday Party of Princess Aurora

Time has passed, and small rose trees bloom with beautiful flowers. Princess Aurora's sixteenth birthday is celebrated at the palace, gorgeous and covered with fully blossomed roses. Four princes from Poland, Russia, France and Spain seek her hand in marriage. At the height of the celebration, Carabosse, in disguise, presents Aurora with a bundle of exquisite roses. Enchanted by their beauty, Aurora grabs the roses, pricks her finger on a needle hidden within the flowers and collapses. Carabosse laughs and reveals herself in triumph. Just in time, the Lilac Fairy appears and puts the entire kingdom under a deep sleep that will last a hundred years to save Aurora from death. The beautiful roses turn into thick thorny bushes that cover the palace, and the Lilac Fairy blesses all put under sleep and casts a spell of protection over them.

ACT II. Prince Désiré's Vision and Princess Aurora's Awakening

A hundred years later, with Carabosse and the Lilac Fairy watching in the distance, Prince Desire comes out for a hunt with his subjects. At a point when Prince D?sir? is separated from his company, the Lilac Fairy appears and summons up a vision of Aurora. The prince falls in love with the beautiful princess. Carabosse puts up a fight, but it is in vain. The Lilac Fairy brings Prince D?sir? to Princess Aurora. Won over by her charm, the Prince kisses the Princess and the sleeping beauty wakes up. With the power of love born in their hearts, the evil spell is broken. Finally, the royal kingdom comes to life after a hundred-year sleep.

ACT III. The Wedding Celebration of Princess Aurora and Prince Désiré

It is the wedding ceremony of Princess Aurora and Prince Desire, and the whole kingdom celebrates. All attendees are disguised as fairy-tale characters. With the blessings of all, the celebration climaxes with the Grand Pas de Deux, performed by Aurora and Desire. While Carabosse jealously watches the wedding celebration in the distance, the Lilac Fairy bestows her blessing on the happy couple. Evil will continue to prowl around us, waiting for an opportunity to strike.
