The performances of 〈Double Bill_McGregor & Tetley〉, presented by GS Arts Center and the Korean National Ballet at GS Arts Center from May 8–10, as well as the Sejong performances held from May 15–16 under the 2026 National Art and Culture Distribution Support Program, concluded successfully to an overwhelmingly positive response from audiences.
Featuring Wayne McGregor’s 〈INFRA〉 and Glen Tetley’s 〈The Rite of Spring〉 , the program explored two vastly different choreographic styles and artistic perspectives, giving audiences an opportunity to experience the rich diversity and expressive range of contemporary ballet.
McGregor’s 〈INFRA〉 delves into human emotion, social disconnection, and the invisible bonds that still connect individuals to one another. The combination of his powerful yet nuanced movement with Julian Opie’s striking visual design, created a highly original integration of dance and visual art. McGregor’s signature choreographic style was on full display, leaving a lasting impression through expressive richness.
Tetley’s 〈The Rite of Spring〉 followed with a portrayal of humanity’s primal instinct and ritual sacrifice, set to Stravinsky’s intense score. Through a fusion of classical ballet and modern dance, Tetley created a distinctive movement language characterized by dramatic tension and explosive energy. The dancers dominated the stage with their remarkable athleticism and emotional commitment. The occasion carried added significance as it coincided with the centenary of Glen Tetley’s birth, emphasizing the enduring artistic legacy and historical importance of his work.
By bringing together two choreographers whose artistic visions differ greatly, 〈Double Bill_McGregor & Tetley〉 offered a special opportunity to experience the rich aesthetics and dynamic energy of contemporary ballet in a single evening. By bringing depth and clarity to the contrasting physical languages of the two works, the dancers of KNB showcased exceptional artistry and an impressive command of contemporary ballet repertoire.
