A slovene ballet dancer Matjaž Marin (born in Maribor) started his ballet training at an early age (aged 6) at the Ballet Preparatory School in his native city. He then continued his ballet studies of at the Conservatory of Music and Ballet in Maribor. After his graduation in 2000, he became (the same year) a member of the ballet ensemble at the Slovene National Theatre Maribor. Starting with character corps de ballet roles, he soon proved himself as a talented, expressive and perspective ballet demi-soloist and finally as a soloist as well. As a soloist, he debuted in the role of Prince (Prokofiev’s Cinderella) in 2007. Since that year, he participated at the Competition of young ballet dancers for the fourth time and won the golden prize. Together with the Maribor ballet ensemble, he performed in ballet and contemporary dance productions, such as Spartacus, Coppélia, La Bayadère (Golden Idol), Don Quixote (Espada), Giselle (Albrecht, Hilarion), The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker (Nutcracker), Swan Lake (Rothbart), La fille mal gardée (Colin and Alain), Lorca Massine’s Zorba the Greek (Yorgos), Clug’s choreographies such as Tango, Lacrimas, Radio & Juliet, The Architecture of Silence, Peer Gynt (Mads Moen),Turcu’s Carmen (Toreador), Yevgeny Onegin (Lensky) and Romeo and Juliet (Mercutio). As a full time member of the Maribor ballet ensemble, he regularly toured in Russia, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Czech republic, Luxemburg, Greece, Croatia, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Israel, the Netherlands, USA, Colombia, Mexico, Brasil. Since 2010 he regularly asists Edward Clug by recreating and staging Clug’s performances around the world. In year 2020 he became a full time stage manager for Opera and Ballet in SNG Maribor.
